Preschool PE
In Preschool, our PE days are Tuesday and Friday mornings .
This term we will be focusing on games to support us to follow instructions and to navigate space safely. This will also include sessions of parachute games as well as sessions on bikes, trikes and scooters.
On these days, we ask that children come to school in their PE kit.
Children can wear the following:
- A plain t-shirt
- Dark jogging bottoms/leggings/shorts (black, navy or grey)
- A dark jumper/hooded jumper (black, navy or grey)
- Trainers/plimsolls
Shared Reading
Each week, the Preschool children will be provided with a sharing book in their bookbag.
At Preschool we share stories as a class, in small groups, and children have access to a variety of books to look at independently.
Please share the story together each week and record this in their reading diary.
The Preschool staff will change the book once a week.
Preschool Snack
In Preschool, children will be provided with a fruit snack every day.
Children are able to bring a snack of fruit from home instead if they would like to, but please ensure that this is fruit only.
Throughout the year, the children will be encouraged to approach snack time with more independence. Encouraging children to peel their own fruit and pour their own drinks is a great way to support their independence and develop their fine motor skills.
Please refer to the below guidance regarding choking hazards for Preschool age children when preparing food and snacks.

Things you can do at home
Things you can do at home
In Preschool, our classroom environment is set up to allow the children to be as independent as possible in selecting and using resources, following routines and in their own self-care.
The document below has some great ideas for things you can do together at home to support your child in becoming more independent.
We use Dough Disco in Preschool to support the development of children's fine motor skills. This uses play dough to strengthen the muscles in their hands and wrists and supports them in getting ready for writing. The document below 'Dough Disco at Home' shows you the key moves used in Dough Disco that you can practice with play dough at home.
The Emergent Writing Process document shows you the progression of skills you will see as your chil learns to make marks and write.

Yoga and Mindfulness
Why not try some yoga at home with your children to try to relax your body and your mind. Yoga is a great way to improve your balance and coordination as well as being a calming and relaxing experience.

Read Write Inc
In your child's final term of Preschool, the Read Write Inc program will be introduced as they begin to learn letter sounds to prepare them for reading and writing.
We will be learning a Set 1 sound daily, encouraging the children to recognise and read these sounds speedily.
